About the North Atlanta Warrior Family Organization

The PTSA and Foundation are Joining Forces!

FAQs

During the 2023-2024 School Year, the PTSA and Foundation will be merging to become ONE “Warrior Family Organization.”

ALL parents, teachers, and students are automatically included as part of the Warrior Family Organization. The new organization will still support the school in the many ways you are familiar with; we'll still be a parent teacher organization (i.e., a PTO), but we'll no longer be affiliated with the state or national PTA. The roles and committees of the PTSA will be incorporated into the long-established 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that is the North Atlanta High School Foundation.

You simply need to ACTIVATE your membership. We are using the same "Membership Toolkit" platform from last year. You can login with the same credentials (same as Sutton too) or create a new account if necessary. This will be our one stop for directory, volunteer efforts, donations, and more!

What does this mean? We welcome everyone in whatever capacity you wish to participate - in giving of time, in giving of talent, in giving of resources (financial and otherwise), and/or just by wanting to be a part of the Warrior Family community!

What about membership dues? We are moving away from membership dues to be more inclusive. Everyone is included who wants to be!

Does that mean we don’t need money? Not at all. We will still be fundraising, as we rely on the financial investment of our community. The Annual Fund will kick off a few weeks after the start of the school year!

While we need your donations, it's not the only thing that is important and valuable. We also value other ways you can give - in-person volunteering, behind-the-scenes organizing and implementing, etc. So bring it all and show up when and where and however you can contribute!  Volunteer Sign-up forms coming soon.

As one family, we’ll continue to work closely with NAHS staff and booster clubs to support our students and teachers throughout the year. We will continue to have the many parent-led committees that make NAHS programming so successful: such as Teacher Appreciation, College Fair, and student events beginning in July with Open House and continuing through the Senior Class Visions Ceremony in May.

Our combined strength and resources will continue to support college & career readiness, art departments, testing support, grant funding to enrich the school community, student organizations, teacher training, and more! As we move through this transition, there will be some challenges, so please bear with us. Also, please respond to this email with questions, ideas, and suggestions for improvement.

We’ll continue to strive to build a stronger community because at North Atlanta High School, we are one Warrior Family!

Together, we can do more!

Together, we create the extraordinary!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is changing? The PTSA and Foundation will join forces to strengthen our support, giving, and advocacy of our parents, teachers and students. We will be a parent teacher organization (i.e., PTO) unaffiliated with the state or national PTA.

When is this happening? Over the course of the 23/24 school year, the PTSA as a legal organization will be "dissolving" per PTSA guidelines. However, this will have no impact on the work PTSA is doing as it will all be seamlessly moving to the Warrior Family Organization.

How does this affect the NAHS Foundation? The legal entity of the Foundation will remain and will retain its status as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Foundation will change its name and  “do business as” Warrior Family Organization.

Will there be dues to join? No dues will be required. Everyone who wants to participate is a member!

Does that mean you don’t need money? Not at all. We will still be fundraising, as we rely on the financial investment of our community. But that’s not the only thing that is important and valuable. We also value other ways you can give - in person volunteering, behind-the-scenes organizing and implementing, etc. So bring it all and show up when and where and how you can contribute!

What does this mean? We welcome everyone in whatever capacity you wish to participate - in giving of time, in giving of talent, in giving of resources (financial and otherwise), and/or just by wanting to be a part of the Warrior Family community!

What will the parent leadership team look like? The PTSA Executive team will work with the Foundation leadership throughout the 23/24 school year to merge the two organizations into one. For the 24/25 school year, there will be ONE organization that will look a lot like our current PTSA, but we'll add in the two main functions of the Foundation: FUNDRAISING and GRANT FULFILLMENT. See this link for an org chart showing both the 23/24 and 24/25 school years. The Foundation currently raises funds through the Annual Fund (fall) and the Annual Auction (spring). All year long, the Foundation receives and fulfills grants from teachers, school departments, students, clubs, and more. Grants from the 22/23 school year ranged in value and scope from $15 for a Kahoot account to over $20,000 for weight room upgrades as well as the new Naviance college and career software platform. Our combined strength and resources will continue to support the College & Career Center, Milestones/AP/IB testing support, as well as providing grants to student organizations, teacher training, and more!

What about Sports Boosters and other booster clubs? Sports Boosters and others will continue to operate under their specific missions while the Warrior Family Organization will provide school-wide support. Warrior Fam will continue to have the many of the committees that make NAHS programming a success: from teacher appreciation committee to supporting student events throughout the year, from Open House in July to the Senior Class Visions Ceremony in May.

Why are we doing this?

  • Alleviate confusion between what the PTSA does and what the Foundation does, as well as who is asking for donations and when.
  • Make it easier for parents to get involved.
  • Streamline fundraising and benefits to donors.
  • Provide clarity for school community: parents and teachers often struggle to distinguish goals and asks for each organization.
  • 100% of the funds we raise will remain in our school moving forward. Currently, we pay $3.75 per PTSA membership (averaging $3000-$4000 per year) to Georgia PTA for little support and resources that have not been updated in many years.
  • Less demand on our school administration’s time and resources.

What else is changing?

  • Teachers can receive $150 mini-grants for resource or classroom supplies. If they need something else, they can apply for a grant.
  • We plan to create a student leadership program with a representative from each class to be part of the executive committee (separate from SGA to give more students a leadership opportunity).
  • Everyone is included who wants to be. Just a Warrior Fam Community. One important way will to "join us in donating”!
